I'm not as familiar with Spider Solitaire (though I played a few rounds just now so I'm not talking nonsense from memory) but in regular Solitaire it is very easy to have an unsolvable scenario (especially on the draw-3 variant). There isn't some real tactics or strategy imo, you are exhausting all possible moves before you draw new cards and hope that by the end you've solved it. I can't really think of much else since the game is fairly straight forward. Obviously getting a King into an empty slot and building that out is the way to go. Planning a few steps ahead is probably also a no-brainer, like if you can move 2 cards for the same effect consider the next card behind these two and how useful that would be and if you can move that card too consider what you can do with the third card after that and so on.
